Alameda County Health workers will walk off job Monday

Union leaders say as many as 500 health workers will walk off the job
Monday at Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland, Juvenile Hall, the
John George Psychiatric Pavilion and Fairmont Hospital in San Leandro.

The 24-hour walk-off, which will continue until 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, is
planned to protest proposed cuts in staffing and services at the county
medical center. The total work force at the four sites is approximately
2,300 people.

Registered nurses and other health workers from Service Employees
International Union locals 250, 535 and 616 are expected to take part.

A protest rally is planned for 9 a.m. Monday at the medical center.

In a written statement released Wednesday, union leaders said they have
filed unfair labor practices complaints with the Public Employee
Relations Board alleging that they have not received information from
the county on why up to 300 medical center employees will be laid off.
